The mascara wand features a brush head which has neatly arranged short bristles designed to comb and separate lashes to prime them for mascara, and the brush does exactly that. The formula itself is a traditional white base, which is rather dry and on applying to the lashes, sets quickly. It does clump slightly at the base of the lashes and takes some practice to get an even coat. I applied this base to one eye only in order to perform my own test and see if this primer made an instant, noticeable difference as it claims. Following this, I applied 2 coats of mascara to each eye.
At first glance, I am unable to tell the difference. But after studying the bottom picture more closely, I do see that the lashes on my left eye are thicker and plumper. I especially notice this effect at the tips of my lashes, which are actually noticeable on the left eye, but disappear into the background on my right. The bases of my lashes are also thicker. However, I don't see a large difference in terms of curl and length.
When examining the pictures above at each eye more closely, the thickening effect is less noticeable. The lashes towards the inner corner appear somewhat darker, however the outer corner lashes are very similar both with and without primer. Ultimately, it seems that whatever effect the product has, it is not a dramatic one. I would like to see this tested on someone with shorter or fairer lashes to see if there is any difference.
DiorShow Maximizer is indeed an innovative product. In fact, it was the recent winner of the 2011 CEW Best in Beauty Award for makeup prestige eye product. In addition, this award winning product has received great reviews online, including a rating of 4.5/5 on MakeUp Alley with 86% of 53 people saying they would repurchase this again. Given these accolades, I'm left thinking, "Am I doing it wrong!?" (This is typically what I wonder when a product everyone likes just doesn't work for me!) The DiorShow Maximizer can be applied as a primer underneath mascara or on its own as a deep conditioner for lashes at night. Dior claims that when tested for efficacy, after only 8 weeks of use participants saw 52% increased volume, 38% increased length, and 73% increased curl. I cannot attest to the long term effects of the serum as I have only just begun to start using this. Given its favorable reviews, I do plan to continue using this product twice daily and examine whether it does live up to its long term benefits, however I did receive this in a sample size, as a gift with purchase so I suspect I only have about 4 weeks of use ahead of me. The effects of this product with prolonged usage will determine if I purchase a full size. In terms of its lash priming abilities, for lengthening and plumping the lashses prior to mascara use, the effect is not dramatic enough for me to justify the cost. $28.00
What do you think? Have you tried this product and experienced better results? If not, will you give it a try?

I used to use this product before I got hooked on Latisse. (ok...I'm a junkie...I use it on occasion even with my ginormous Latisse lashes)
ReplyDeleteI have fairly long lashes with a nice curl and after some trial and error with the clumping at the base of the lashes like you experienced, my trick was is to close my eye and brush it on the tops of my eyelashes, focusing on the tips and then apply two coats of mascara. Works like a charm on me.
Thanks for the tip Xenia! I'll try that.
